Abstract

This article presents a clinical case of a mine blast shrapnel wound to the chest organs, including the heart, with the fragment lodged in the interventricular septum. The patient, in stable condition, underwent surgery three weeks after the injury. Intraoperatively, in addition to a metal fragment, a fragment of clothing was found in the heart. The foreign bodies were removed. The postoperative period and rehabilitation were uneventful.

Some historical and statistical information related to penetrating wounds of the heart, including those of non-metallic nature, is presented, and aspects of diagnosis and treatment tactics are highlighted.
