Abstract
The article is devoted to the 200th anniversary of one of the founders of scientific medicine, the author of the cell theory in biology and medicine. The biography of the scientist is briefly described, his considerable contribution to the development of different branches of science is noted, his role as a social and political figure of his epoch is shown.
